Succession Planning: It's Never Too Early to Start (Morristown, NJ)

In the next five years, two-thirds of the nation's current nonprofit directors plan to retire or leave their positions. As the baby-boomers depart their leadership roles, there are concrete steps Board members can take to ensure organizational continuity before, during and after the transition. Whether or not your organization falls into those statistics, it is never too soon to become a “succession organization” – one that proactively engages in front-end recruitment and retention strategies so that the organization has a “bench” of capable people to minimize the impact of CEO, key staff, and/or Board leadership turnover.  This interactive, half-day session will take a holistic look at the overall succession dynamic and help Boards to understand their role in succession planning.  We encourage Executive Directors to bring a team of up to two Board Executive Committee members.
